Project Updates as of March 31, 2017

C-470 Express Lanes

Owner: CDOT

Description: The project will add two express lanes westbound from I-25 to Colorado, one  express lane between Colorado and Wadsworth westbound, and one express lane eastbound from Wadsworth to I-25, full reconstruction of a portion of the existing pavement, adding auxiliary lanes at selected locations, improving portions of on-ramps and off-ramps to current standards, realigning substandard curves, safety and operational improvements between I-25 and Quebec via adding direct-connect ramps from I-25 to the C-470  express lanes, widening of existing bridges throughout the project area, replacing the bridges over the South Platte River, installing water-quality features where required, installing noise barriers where required, installing Intelligent Transportation Systems elements and tolling equipment and, adding grade separations for the multi-use trail at Quebec and Colorado. The project includes innovative financing funded mostly by loans supported by toll revenues. The total project cost including innovative financing is $318 million with an advertised $215 million construction contract value.

Schedule: Construction began on November 1, 2016 and is projected to be complete in the spring of 2019

 


Southeast Rail Extension

Owner: RTD

Description: The project will add 2.3 miles of light rail from the existing Lincoln Station to RidgeGate Parkway in Lone Tree. There will be three new stations: a kiss-n-Ride at Sky Ridge Avenue, one at the future Lone Tree City Center and a 1,500 –slot Park-n-Ride at RidgeGate Parkway. The cost is estimated at $207 million with $35-$40 million committed from stakeholders in the southwest. The project is funded by RTD, FTA, the City of Lone Tree, Douglas County, Rampart Range Metro District, Denver South Transportation Management Association / Southeast Public Improvement District, and the City of Lone Tree.

Schedule:

Construction activities during the week of June 25 will include Lincoln, RidgeGate and I-25 light rail bridge work.

Both directions of I-25 will close overnight between Lincoln Avenue and RidgeGate Parkway Thursday, June 29

As part of the Southeast Rail Extension Project, on June 29, motorists can expect an overnight closure on I-25 as crews pour the deck for the future light rail bridge across I-25 (located south of Lincoln Avenue near the future Sky Ridge Station). While crews pour the deck, I-25 will be closed to both directions of traffic between RidgeGate Parkway and Lincoln Avenue. 

  • Thursday, June 29:
    • FULL CLOSURE of northbound and southbound I-25 between Lincoln Avenue and RidgeGate Parkway as crews pour the deck for the future light rail bridge across I-25 (located south of Lincoln Avenue near the future Sky Ridge Station).
      • From 10 p.m. - 5:30 a.m. - Northbound I-25 between RidgeGate Parkway and Lincoln Avenue will be closed
      • From 11 p.m. - 5:30 a.m. - Southbound I-25 between Lincoln Avenue and RidgeGate Parkway will be closed
      • Alternating lane restrictions starting at 8 p.m.
      • Detour:
        • Motorists traveling southbound on I-25 will exit at Lincoln Avenue and head east on Lincoln Avenue toward S. Oswego Street, take S. Oswego Street south to S. Peoria Street take S. Peoria St. south to RidgeGate Parkway, take RidgeGate Parkway west to I-25, take the on-ramp to I-25.
        • Motorists traveling northbound on I-25 will exit at RidgeGate Parkway and head east on RidgeGate Parkway to S. Peoria Street, take S. Peoria Street north to S. Oswego Street, take S. Oswego Street north to Lincoln Avenue, take Lincoln Avenue west to I-25, take the on-ramp to I-25.

Other anticipated traffic impacts for the week of June 25 are:

  • Monday, June 26 - Friday, June 30
    • Southbound I-25 off-ramp onto westbound Lincoln Avenue
      • From 9 a.m. - 3 p.m. - Right shoulder closed, watch for trucks entering the ramp daily. 
  • Thursday, June 29 and Friday, June 30
    • RidgeGate Parkway between Havana Street and the northbound I-25 on-ramp
      • From 8:30 a.m. - 3:30 p.m. - Alternating westbound and eastbound lane restrictions for RidgeGate light rail bridge work. Watch for changes in traffic patterns.

Rampart Range Metro District – SkyRidge Avenue Extension Bridge

Owner: Rampart Range Metro District

Description: Automobile bridge with accommodations for Bicycles and pedestrians to cross I-25 to the future Lone Tree Town Center. Currently in design, the bridge will be parallel to the South East Rail Extension.

 


I-25 and Arapahoe Road Interchange Reconstruction Project

Owner: CDOT

Description: This project is estimated at $68 million, $50.4 million for construction and $6 million for design. CDOT, in partnership with Arapahoe County, the Cities of Centennial and Greenwood Village, and the Southeast Public Improvement Metropolitan District, is designing improvements to the I-25 and Arapahoe Road interchange. This project consists of design and replacement of the existing I-25 bridge over Arapahoe Road, and other improvements to the interchange complex, to reduce congestion and improve traffic operations and safety.

Schedule: Construction is scheduled to begin May 2016, to be complete in July 2018.


Broadway/County Line Road Intersection Improvement Project

Owner: City of Littleton

Description: The project includes construction of an additional left turn lane from southbound Broadway to eastbound County Line Road. A new sidewalk and crosswalks, new traffic signal, improved drainage and a new inlet with landscaping will also improve traffic flow and aesthetics at the intersection.

Schedule:  March 27, 2017 until the end of 2017.

 


Quebec/Lincoln/University Intersection Improvement Project

Owner: Douglas County

Description: This project involves widening northbound Quebec and eastbound Lincoln Avenue in order to improve safety and traffic operations by providing improved auxiliary lanes.  The project is estimated to cost approximately $2 million.  

Schedule:  Construction to begin June 2016 and should be substantially completed by November 15, 2016.

 


Lincoln Widening Phase (First phase is between Peoria and Meridian Village Parkway)

Owner: Douglas County

Description: This project involves widening Lincoln Avenue from 4 to 6 thru lanes between Peoria Street and Jordan Road, as well as making safety and traffic operational improvements at the Lincoln and Chamber intersection.   

Schedule:  Construction between Peoria Street and Meridian Village Parkway for the eastbound lanes is to begin in summer 2017 and westbound lanes is to begin in summer 2018.

 


Peoria Street Widening Project (between E-470 and Lincoln Avenue)  

Owner: Douglas County

Description: This project involves widening Peoria Street from 2 to 4 thru lanes (widens the east side) as part of development project that is located on the east side of Peoria Street.

Schedule:  Final design is underway and construction is likely to begin in 2016 or 2017.

 


2016 Concrete Pavement Maintenance and Repairs throughout Highlands Ranch 

Owner: Douglas County

Description: The project includes installing ADA ramps, concrete panel replacement, grinding and joint sealing on major arterial roadways throughout Highlands Ranch (see attached map).

Schedule:  Construction is likely to begin in June 2016 and similar types of projects will also occur in 2017, 2018 and 2019.

 


US 85 Widening (Highlands Ranch Parkway to C-470)

Owner: CDOT

Description: This project is being managed jointly by CDOT and Douglas County and requires widening US 85 from four to six thru lanes between Highlands Ranch Parkway and the C 470 eastbound off-on ramps. The project is funded by Douglas County, DRCOG / FHWA and CDOT.

Schedule: Final design is to begin late 2016, ROW acquisition and utility relocations to begin 2017, and construction to begin no sooner than winter 2018 and no later than fall 2019 and will take 24 months to complete construction.

 


E-470 Road Widening Project

Owner: E-470

Description: The project widens E-470 from Cherry Creek to Quincy Avenue from two lanes to three lanes in each direction.

Schedule: Construction is scheduled to begin spring 2016

 


West Chatfield Avenue – South Pierce Street to South Kendall Boulevard Roundabouts

Owner: Jefferson County

Description: The proposed improvements include adding curb and gutter with a storm drainage system, bike lanes and multi-use path, a roundabout at Kendall Boulevard, and landscaping. Jefferson County has planned for construction of these improvements in 2017. The project is being funded by the County’s One-half Cent Sales Tax for roadway improvements in southeast Jefferson County.
