Upcoming Construction Activities

Anyone driving I-25 in the area of US 6 the nights of Sunday, March 16, through Friday, March 21, should expect heavy traffic and travel delays. Beginning at 10 p.m. each of these nights, southbound I-25 traffic will be diverted off of the highway at US 6 while northbound I-25 traffic will shift over into the southbound lanes so crews can remove the east side of the US 6 bridge deck that crosses over I-25. Traffic in both directions of I-25 will be narrowed to a single lane before 6th Avenue and this process of funneling traffic into one lane will begin prior to 10 p.m. Drivers should plan for heavy traffic starting at about 9:30 p.m. and continuing until about midnight each night. Regional northbound through traffic should avoid the area altogether by taking either C-470 or I-225 to I-70 while northbound local traffic can take Santa Fe Drive to 8th Avenue. Regional southbound through traffic can take I-70 west to C-470 or east to I-225 to avoid the area while southbound local traffic can exit at Colfax or 8th avenues.

The northbound I-25 off-ramp to eastbound US 6 is closed for approximately 6 months while crews reconstruct the ramp and bridge over the BNSF railroad tracks. To detour around this closure, northbound I-25 motorists should continue to 8th Avenue, go east on 8th Avenue to Kalamath, then go south on Kalamath to US 6.
