Weekend Closure of Federal Boulevard

Beginning the night of Friday, May 16, Federal Boulevard will be closed at 5th Avenue for intersection reconstruction. The intersection will close at 9 p.m. Friday night and reopen at 5:30 a.m. Monday morning, May 19.

Doing this work over one weekend will allow the project team to complete work that would otherwise take several weeks and require multiple closures. This will significantly speed up the construction schedule and minimize community impacts to one weekend only. During the weekend closure crews will:

  • Remove the existing asphalt and concrete paving
  • Remove existing curb & gutter, sidewalks and driveways
  • Install storm drains
  • Install new concrete paving, curb and gutter, sidewalks and driveways
  • Install new traffic signal components
  • Re-stripe Federal Boulevard through the intersection

Local Detours: Local business and neighborhood access will be maintained

  • To get to eastbound US 6, local traffic south of the closure can use 2nd Ave., Bryant Street and 5th Ave.
  • To get to eastbound US 6, traffic north of the closure can take 8th Ave. east to Zuni Street, or use 8th Ave. to Canosa Court, Bryant Street and 5th Ave.
  • To access westbound US 6, local traffic south of the closure can use 2nd Ave., Bryant Street, Canosa Court, 8th Ave. and Federal Boulevard to get to westbound US 6.
  • North of the closure, southbound traffic can still access westbound US 6 from Federal Boulevard.
