CO 12 Bridge Replacement in Las Animas County
Project Complete!
The Colorado Department of Transportation, in partnership with contractor Siete, Inc., is proud to announce the successful completion of a significant safety enhancement project on Colorado Highway 12 between Stonewall and Weston. The project, which involved the replacement of an aging bridge over the North Fork Purgatoire River at mile point 42.75, commenced on March 27, and reached completion a month ahead of schedule.
This critical infrastructure upgrade ensures the safety and efficiency of this vital rural roadway serving as a transportation lifeline in Las Animas County. The 85-year-old bridge has been replaced with a state-of-the-art structure. Motorists will experience a bridge with wider shoulders and smoother pavement, enhancing the overall driving conditions on this segment of CO 12.
In addition to the bridge's modernization, the project also realized extensive safety improvements along this stretch of the highway. These enhancements include the installation of new, more robust guardrails, the addition of rumble strips to alert drivers potentially drifting from their lane, and the placement of delineators to improve visibility and guide safe driving practices.
