El Paso County Bridge Maintenance

Project Complete!

The Colorado Department of Transportation in collaboration with prime contractor Macintosh and Sons Construction, will begin preventative bridge maintenance on US Highway 24 over 31st Street.  This is the final phase of a larger bridge maintenance project occurring at three locations in El Paso County.

Crews wrap up after a one-week closure on US 24 and 31st Street for bridge maintenance work

The first two phases of the project focused on the Interstate 25 bridge over South Tejon Street and South Nevada Avenue and the CO 16 railroad bridge over US 85. The project, which began in June, is expected to wrap up in all three locations at the end of September. Work at the US 24 location will primarily consist of bridge deck repairs, curb and gutter repairs, and asphalt overlays. Maintenance will be done in both north and southbound lanes for the duration of this phase. This project will improve and prolong the life of the road surface, offering a higher quality driving experience for travelers. Maintaining the structural integrity of highway bridges is crucial to uphold the safety of all motorists.
