"The deterioration of the longitudinal joint (centerline) has become a safety hazard for the traveling public driving through Glenwood Canyon. Its current condition has been a contributing factor to the rate of deterioration of the pavement throughout the canyon. The removal and replacement of the longitudinal joint will extend the life of the pavement in canyon until funding becomes available to conduct a full width replacement in the future," says CDOT Project Engineer Dave Tedrow. "We appreciate the public's understanding and patience with this project."

On Tuesday, May 1, crews will begin repairing approximattely 15 miles of I-70 in Glenwood Canyon between Gypsum and Glenwood Springs.

Crews will begin working on westbound I-70, near Gypsum, at mile point 131 and progress toward Glenwood Springs. Once crews reach mile point 118, they will begin working in the eastbound lanes. Approximately 1.5 miles of asphalt is expected to be removed and replaced per day.
