CO 149 Spring Creek Pass North

Project Facts

  • Cost:
    $5.3 million

Project Team

  • Contractor(s): Oldcastle SW Group

In summer 2016, crews improved the riding surface of the highway on Spring Creek Pass (south of Gunnison near Lake City)by completing the following work:

  • Resurfaced the existing pavement, including cold-in-place-recycle (CIP), hot mix asphalt overlay, epoxy pavement marking and bridge deck rehabilitation;
  • Repaired a bridge deck at mile point 69;
  • Installed new guardrails; and
  • Provided fresh pavement markings.

CO 149, primarily used by tourists in the spring and summer seasons, had not had major work for almost 15 years prior to this point. This resurfacing project gave the roadway 10 more years of stability and smoothness.
