US 550 & CO 62 Surface Improvements in La Plata & Ouray Counties

Crews on this project completed work at three separate locations in Southwest Colorado. Work included applying protective coating to US Highway (US) 550, and installing rumble strips at two locations on US 550 and Colorado Highway (CO) 62.  All work locations received new lane striping.

US 550 at two locations:

1. May 30 to early July 2018: US 550 (MP 37.3 – 44.5), in La Plata County, north of Durango, approximately from La Plata County Road 250 (north junction) to Electra Lake Road
   This section of highway received a surface treatment and new lane striping. Crews also put in place a new configuration, which includes a new southbound passing lane and a new southbound left turn lane into the Rockwood Subdivision.
   
   
   
2. Mid-June to early July 2018: US 550 (MP 81.0 – 117.4), in Ouray County, approximately from Red Mountain Pass to Colona (or the Ouray-Montrose County line)
   Crews installed a new center line rumble strip (a safety feature to alert drivers when their cars cross the center line) and new lane striping to this stretch of US 550. No work was conducted within the town of Ouray limits.
   

CO 62 in Ouray County, at one location:

1. Mid-June to early July 2018: CO 62 (MP 9.0 – 16.0), about seven miles west of Ridgway along the Dallas Divide
   Crews installed a new center line rumble strip (a safety feature to alert drivers when their cars cross the center line) and new lane striping to this stretch of CO 62.
