US 160 Resurfacing Project from Four Corners to Aztec Creek
Project Complete!
The Colorado Department of Transportation completed work on along US 160 from the Four Corners to Aztec Creek. A&S Construction Company of Canyon City was the contractor for this project.
The resurfacing project took place on US 160 for 9 miles from Mile Point (MP) approximately 470, at the Arizona/New Mexico state line, to MP 8, at Aztec Creek. Work included a full depth reclamation and reconstruction of the highway. All layers of the roadway were pulverized and reused in a new hot mix asphalt paving. Other aspects of the project included minor shoulder widening and construction of additional passing lanes and acceleration/deceleration lanes for CO 41. Crews also performed bridge maintenance, culvert repairs, installed new guardrail, new pavement markings and signing.
Project Benefits:
- The resurfacing added approximately 10 years of life to the highway, provided a smoother road surface and added durability by increasing the resistance of ruts and road damage. This will allow for a smoother and safer drive for motorists.
- Other benefits of the project include installation of new guardrail that will be 31 inches high, designed to meet new safety standard requirements. The higher railing will help veering vehicles remain on the road more effectively, making the highway safer for the traveling public. The former standard height of guardrail was 27 inches.
