US 160 La Veta Pass Resurfacing Project

Project Complete!

HUERFANO COUNTY —The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin surface treatment work on Monday. Work will take place along US Highway 160, east of La Veta Pass.

The resurfacing project is anticipated to take six months to complete. Initial work will include setting up the work zone and removing the existing pavement surface. The work includes resurfacing of approximately 15 miles of roadway that will incorporate asphalt milling and repaving; guardrail replacement; and final striping. The project was contracted to APC Southern/Oldcastle SW and is expected to be completed in December 2022.

“Resurfacing this portion of US 160 is a significant undertaking. We are working to ensure the project is conducted safely and efficiently,” said CDOT Regional Transportation Director Rich Zamora. “We appreciate the cooperation and patience of the public while we make these improvements.” The project will improve and prolong the life of the road surface. Work will primarily consist of resurfacing the roadway, using a milling and repaving process. Work will be done in both the eastbound and westbound lanes for an 11-mile stretch of US 160 on the east side of La Veta Pass to Colorado Highway 12. A smooth road or highway has many important benefits including safety and improved quality driving experience. A smoother surface also offers safer driving for motorists.

Work Schedule

  • Work hours are during daylight hours, Monday through Friday.

Traffic Impacts

  •  Vehicles may be reduced to a single-lane, alternating traffic intermittently in either direction, throughout the duration of the project. These lane closures, guided by flaggers, may have up to 15-minute delays. The speed limit will be reduced to 40 mph through the work zone. The project is expected to be complete in December.
