About the Project

On Tuesday, Sept. 6, 2016, the Colorado Department of Transportation (CDOT) began resurfacing Colorado Highway 340. Project work was completed in October 2016.

The project, in Redlands—between Grand Junction and Fruita—involved three separate work zones and activities:

  1. ADA ramp improvements and resurfacing;
  2. guardrail improvements; and
  3. shoulder widening and resurfacing.

Justification

This project was the next phase of a multi-year resurfacing effort on the 340 corridor that includes future resurfacing efforts as well. ADA modifications are included in CDOT resurfacing projects to ensure ADA compliance at locations where pedestrian access exists.

Additionally, this project widened a section of the highway (work zone 3), which was the last remaining segment that did not have shoulders. This project maintains the infrastructure for motorized users, and enhances the experience and safety for pedestrians and bicyclists in support of CDOT's commitment to providing multi-modal facilities.
