CO 69 Walsenburg Shoulder Widening & Safety Improvements

Project Complete

About the Project

This project consists of shoulder widening and safety improvements to CO 69 from MP 10 to MP 30.

Project Benefits

Shoulder widening provides enhanced safety and mobility for motorists traveling on narrow two-lane highways. Narrow two-lane highways, with no substantial area on the side or shoulder, does not allow for vehicles to pull-off onto a shoulder or recover if veered off the main road. Construction of wider shoulders will improve safety by providing a larger recoverable area on the side of the roadway and reduce the potential of crashes from vehicles veering off the road.

Work Schedule

Work hours will be Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

Traffic Impacts

Motorists can expect the following impacts during the period of construction:

  • Alternating single lane traffic guided by flaggers will take place throughout the duration of the project.
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 45 mph in the work zone.
  • Plan ahead and expect short delays.
  • Construction schedules could change depending on the weather.
  • Refer to COtrip.org for real-time travel conditions and road closures
