Colorado Highway 115 Improvements

Oct. 12, 2023 Update

CO 115 concrete paving resumes between Glenrock Road and Roca Roja Circle

Concrete paving has started on the west side of Colorado Highway 115 between Glenrock Drive and Roca Roja Circle. Several driveways and County roads will need to be crossed with the paving operation.

Brief full closures (up to two days) are expected at Old Canon City Road and Roca Roja Circle. When Old Canon City Road is closed, drivers will be directed to use Rock Creek Canyon Road to access properties east of the highway. When Roca Roja Circle is closed, the detour route will direct drivers to use Calle Corvo and Paseo Corto. The exact closure schedule is not known at this time. An informational sign with closure dates will be placed near the affected CO 115 access in advance of the work.

Unless other arrangements are made, all other driveways and side streets will remain open. Temporary surfaces may be present and used for access. Narrow lanes and tight turns are expected while equipment is present and the concrete cures. An informational sign will be placed near the affected CO 115 access in advance of the work.

The construction schedule is weather-dependent and may change.

CO 115 weekend single-lane alternating traffic planned this weekend

CO 115 will be reduced to a single-lane configuration with flaggers and a pilot vehicle alternating northbound and southbound traffic continuously from 7 p.m. on Friday, Oct. 13 to 6 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 16. This configuration is necessary to pave a narrow section of the highway south of Roca Roja Circle (mile point 35). The length of the single-lane operation will be less than one mile. Drivers should expect delays (up to 15 minutes) and be prepared to stop for flaggers.

Paving operations are weather-dependent, and the schedule is subject to change. Any changes to the weekend work schedule will be displayed on message boards along the corridor.

Traffic Impacts & Schedule

Drivers should expect temporary driving surfaces and frequent traffic pattern changes through fall. Care will be taken to maintain access to adjacent properties. However, drivers should be aware that construction equipment may infrequently block side-streets and driveways for up to 15 minutes during grading and asphalt paving operations.

Other traffic impacts include:
  • CO 115 is in two lane configuration (one lane in each direction) for the entire project length from two miles south of Barrett Road (MP 27.7) to Rock Creek Canyon Road/Wilderness Road (MP 39)
  • A reduced work zone speed limit of 45 mph is strictly enforced for the entire project work zone (12 miles)
  • An oversize vehicle width restriction of 11 feet is in place

About the Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation is constructing a major improvement project on CO 115 between Colorado Springs and Penrose. This project improves road and bridge safety on CO 115 from MP 27.7 to MP 39 by adding passing lanes, right turn lanes, reconstructing Rock Creek bridge, and performing major rehabilitation or reconstruction of cracked and distressed pavement.
The project limits are between mile points 27.7 and 39 on CO 115 in El Paso County
