CO 21 and US 24 Signal Improvment Project in El Paso County

Project Complete!

The Colorado Department of Transportation and contract partner Arrow Electric will begin a signal replacement project February 21.

Improvements will be on CO Hwy. 21 (N. Powers Blvd.) at Constitution Ave. and Palmer Park Blvd. and on US Hwy. 24 (E. Fountain Blvd.) at Academy Park Loop/Alvarado Dr.

Work will include the removal of the antiquated existing traffic signals and installation of traffic signal equipment, poles, mast arms, vehicle detectors, closed circuit television cameras, advanced flashing beacons, signing and minor striping at each intersection.

Additional work includes removing and installing curb, gutter, and Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) ramps.

Project Benefits

Traffic signals are a vital part of controlling traffic in a safe and efficient manner by providing regulated movement. Vehicle detection will reduce unnecessary delays and stops at the intersection while improving travel times and increasing the amount of traffic that an intersection can handle. Other benefits of the project include the installation of ADA compliant curb ramps. The new ramps will be constructed in compliance with the Public Right of Way Accessibility Guidelines (PROWAG) requirements and will provide function accessibility to all travelers using
our state and US highways.
