CO 64 & CO 13 Meeker Resurfacing Project

About the Project:

The Colorado Department of Transportation and United Companies have scheduled a resurfacing project on Colorado Highway 13 and Colorado Highway 64 in Rio Blanco County. This includes a 1.5-inch hot mix asphalt overlay on both highways. The project limits are on CO 64 from Mile Point 65.56 to 73.7 and on CO 13 from MP 36.2 to 39.3.

The project will also include upgraded guardrails, rumble strips and pavement marking. Additionally, there will be bridge improvements at MP 38.7 on CO 13, including installation of a new bridge expansion device, and sealing bridge joints.  


Project Benefits:

  • A smooth road or highway has many important benefits including safety and improved quality for driving experience
  • Resurfacing greatly extends the life of the asphalt pavement
  • Some highways may last more than 50 years with periodic resurfacing of the top layer of asphalt and timely repairs

Work Schedule:

  • Work is expected to be completed by late September 2023
  • Normal working hours will be from 7 a.m.  to 7  p.m. Monday through Friday.

Traffic Impacts:

Motorists can expect the following impacts during the period of construction:

  • The roadway shall remain open while improvements are being made.
  • Lane closures will be in place and delays up to 15 minutes can be expected
  • The speed limit will be reduced to 35 mph during work hours and 45 mph all other times through the work zone.
  • Loads wider than 12 feet will be restricted through the work zone on CO 13.
  • Loads wider than 10 feet will be restricted through the work zone on CO 64.
