South Federal Blvd. Safety Improvements

CDOT  will build medians on Federal Boulevard from Alameda to Vassar to improve safety of the corridor. The primary purpose of the project is to save lives by reducing injuries and fatalities.  Pedestrian fatalities are higher than the national average for this type of road and traffic volume.

  • Under 3 miles of medians will be built from Vassar to Alameda beginning this spring.

  • There will be breaks in medians at signalized intersections and emergency vehicle access.
  • Medians will improve pedestrian safety by separating traffic on the heavily traveled section of South Federal Boulevard.  This will significantly reduce pedestrian, broadside and approach turn crashes


  • The median project is part of the City of Denver's Federal Boulevard Corridor Plan to transform the corridor so it is safer and more pedestrian friendly, while serving the transportation needs of all users.
