Project Facts

  • Cost: $2.5 million
  • Contractor: SEMA Construction
  • Timeline: May 2019 - January 2020
  • Location: west of Idaho Springs at I-70 Exit 238, between Stanley Road and Fall River Road

CDOT and contractor SEMA Construction have completed construction of the two-lane vehicle bridge connecting Stanley Road to the I-70/Fall River Road interchange at Exit 238. The bridge is open and Stanley Road has been restored to its original two-lane configuration.

This project was designed to improve driver, bicycle and pedestrian accessibility between I-70 and Stanley Road which is a popular gateway to year-round recreational and tourist destinations.

Construction began in May 2019 and the bridge features a 10-foot wide sidewalk with pedestrian guardrails, signs and lighting to improve safety. Crews raised an approximately 845-foot long stretch of Stanley Road by about four feet to match the elevation of the new bridge and added guardrails along Stanley Road at the approaches to the bridge. The eastbound I-70 on- and off-ramps at Exit 238 were also repaved.

Crews will return in spring 2020 when the weather warms up to paint the railings, add landscaping to the median at the interchange and make other aesthetic improvements.
