I-25 Crossroads Bridge

SB I-25 Traffic Switch Schedule for Tonight is Cancelled

The planned closure of SB I-25 & NB I-25 for Crossroads Blvd. (Exit 259) that was scheduled for this week to switch traffic, has been cancelled due to cold temperatures and wet work areas.

The traffic switch is weather dependent in order for the work to be completed.  The interstate must be re-striped with new reflective lines, so motorists can clearly see the defined lanes when traveling.  To apply new stripes to the ground, it needs to be at least 30 degrees Fahrenheit and have a dry surface area for a full 24 hours prior to striping.  The striping and traffic switch can only happen at night due to the significant traffic impacts affecting the traveling public on NB and SB I-25. The traffic switch will be rescheduled for a later date.

All other work will continue as planned (weather permitting).

Motorists should plan additional travel time to pass through the construction zone. Speed limits will be reduced in the construction zone for both the safety of the traveling public, as well as construction crews in the area.

ALTERNATE ROUTE INFORMATION: Motorists are encouraged to use either Highway 34 (Exit 257) or East County Road 32 (Exit 262) to navigate around the project. Either route will add approximately five minutes of travel time.

Project Overview

The I-25 Crossroads Boulevard Bridge Replacement project began in September 2016 and is expected to be complete by March 2018.

The project consists of replacing the bridges on I-25 at Crossroads Boulevard between mile points (MP) 258.6 to MP 260.1. The majority of the project is funded through Responsible Acceleration of Maintenance and Partnerships (RAMP)* with contributions from the North Front Range Metropolitan Planning Organization. Work will also include the following:

  • Replacing of walls near the bridge
  • Embankment work
  • Temporary asphalt placement for on-site detour phasing
  • Curb and gutter replacement
  • New signage and striping of highway
  • Guardrail replacement

Current Crossroads

The northbound bridge is complete, and traffic has been shifted onto the new roadway. Because the new northbound structure was built with 28-foot shoulders to accommodate future Express Lanes, the bridge will be able to temporarily handle both flows of traffic until the southbound structure is complete.

Flaggers may be directing traffic along Crossroads Boulevard at the I-25 overpass.

Expected Traffic Impacts

Two lanes of traffic in each direction on I-25 will be maintained for the duration of the project during daytime hours. Traffic impacts are expected to be minimal. Flaggers will be directing traffic along Crossroads Boulevard. Motorists are encouraged to use either Highway 34 (exit 257) or East County Road 32 (exit 262) to navigate around the project. Either route will add approximately five minutes of travel time.

Some lane and/or ramp closures are expected at night and will be communicated on this site and via email alerts. (Sign up for alerts.) Please use caution and stay alert while traveling through the construction zone.

*RAMP: Responsible Acceleration of Maintenance and Partnerships is a short-term funding program whereby CDOT is funding multi-year projects based on year of expenditure, rather than saving for the full amount of a project before construction begins. Partnership project funding was applied for, and matched by local agencies, to accelerate priority projects in the agencies’ local areas. RAMP projects may see funding from 2015 through 2017.
