Coping With Construction

Double rainbow over construction zone

Let's Work Together for Everyone's Safety

Construction will inevitably impact people along this corridor. Thank you for your patience. During the day, two lanes of traffic will be open in both directions. Here's a look at some of the other things the project team is doing to minimize impacts, as well as ways drivers can help:

Emergency pull-outs: Sometimes things happen and you need to pull over. Or a stalled car will need somewhere to be towed. We will make sure there isn't more than a one-mile stretch in our project area without an opportunity to do so. Slow down: The construction zone speed limit will be a maximum of 60 mph. This is for everyone's safety, so please obey posted limits.
Safety patrol: A tow truck will regularly patrol the corridor to quickly help stranded cars and keep traffic flowing. Stay alert: As we work on improvements, this corridor will change quickly. Please pay attention and avoid distracted driving.
Night closures: For the safety of our workers and the traveling public, some of our work will require lane and/or ramp closures. We'll keep most of our closures to off-peak times. Leave early: Delays are expected. If you have a deadline for your destination, please give yourself plenty of time. This will decrease stress and reduce the likelihood of a crash.
Smart work zones: Real-time, accurate information about work zone conditions is vital to the safety of a construction site. We'll be using smart work zone technology to automatically gather and distribute information about lane closures, truck activity and traffic conditions. The more drivers know about an upcoming work zone, the safer the area is for everyone. Be courteous: Remember—We are all in this together. Give your fellow drivers and our workers plenty of space and grace. Keep calm and commute on.
Commuting Options: We’re here to help facilitate finding a commute that works best for you. Drivers: Check out WayToGo’s telework support or learn more about using Bustang to commute between Colorado Springs and Denver.

Thank you for your patience, and drive safely!
