I-270 Bridge Preventative Maintenance

About the Project:

Starting March 18, the Colorado Department of Transportation and the contractor Kiewit Infrastructure will begin repairs to both eastbound and westbound bridges on I-270 over Vasquez Boulevard in Commerce City.
This work is a continuation of the work which began in September of 2023. To prevent sudden emergency repairs, CDOT has identified areas to replace bridge decking, repair specific concrete panels and replace asphalt in some locations in the work zone.

Project Benefits

• This project will greatly improve the driving surface and safety of these bridge decks until the bridge structures can be completely replaced in the future as part of the I-270 Corridor Improvements Project.
• Resurfacing the bridges will prevent lengthy and unexpected lane closures in the future because of emergency pavement repairs.

Work Schedule:

• The project started the weekend of September 28 and is expected to wrap up in late December 2023, depending on weather.
• To get the project completed as soon as possible, most of the work will take place over the weekends with a single lane closure in one direction of I-270 between York Street and Vasquez Boulevard from 9 p.m. Friday to 1 p.m. Saturday and from 9 p.m. Saturday to 1 p.m. Sunday.

Traffic Impacts:

Motorists can expect the following impacts during the period of construction:

• Significant delays are expected on Saturdays and Sundays between 11 a.m. and 1 p.m. Delays up to 25 minutes can be expected. Heavy delays are also expected from 9 p.m. to 10 p.m. on Fridays.
• Loads wider than 12 feet will be restricted through the work zone.
• There will be at least one lane of travel open in each direction during construction.
• During the week, Monday through Thursday, there will be overnight intermittent single lane closures from 10 p.m. to 5 a.m.
