I-70 over 32nd Avenue Bridge Replacement

About the Project

This project is designed to improve public safety and add capacity to support increased traffic on the I-70 corridor.

Work includes removal and replacement of both eastbound and westbound bridges E-16-HEA and E-16-HFA with concrete box girders and precast deck panels. Work will also include final surface construction for the bridges, roadway overlay and landscaping.


Work Schedule

  • This five-phase project began on February 14, 2022 and is expected to last until late fall 2023.
  • Phase I lasts until early spring 2022 and includes minor bridge demolition, asphalt removals and utility relocations. Phase II to Phase IV include constructing the median portion of the new westbound I-70 bridge and installing detour pavement, removing and replacing both westbound and eastbound I-70 bridges, constructing permanent roadways, and finalizing bridge overlays.
  • Final asphalt overlay, striping and landscaping will be completed in Phase V.
  • Work will be performed during daytime hours Monday to Friday with some night and weekend work expected.

Traffic Impacts

  • Traffic shifts, narrowed lanes and reduced speeds are in place at the approaches to and at Exit 264 (Clear Creek Pkwy/Youngfield/32nd Avenue) along both directions of I-70 from Exit 263 (Colorado Mills Pkwy) to Exit 265 (CO 58/Golden)
  • Three lanes of traffic will be maintained during daytime hours, but the lanes are narrower due to the traffic shifts
  • Overnight (non peak-travel hours) single or double lane closures in both directions of I-70 from Exit 263 to Exit 265 will exist until completion
