Eisenhower-Johnson Memorial Tunnel Resurfacing

I-70 EJMT Tunnel Resurfacing

Proposed Work Schedule

  • May to early June: Day- and nighttime single lane closures in each direction of the EJMT.
  • Early June to early September: No daytime lane closures planned but there will be nighttime single lane closures.
  • Early September to late October: Day- and nighttime lane closures.
  • During the course of the project, there will be full bore tunnel closures to occur mostly in the fall. Closures will occur at night. Traffic will be routed through the open tunnel while the other tunnel is closed for construction work.
  • Work will occur Sunday through Friday.

Traffic Impacts

  • Motorists can expect daytime single lane closures and full-bore closures at night from May 1 – May 21 and September 8 – October 26. During the full-bore closures, traffic will be detoured through the other tunnel. For example, when the eastbound tunnel is closed, traffic will be alternated in both directions via a pilot car in the westbound tunnel.
There will be single lane closures at nighttime from May 25 – September 8.
*Closure times and dates may vary based on traffic volumes.
