I-70 Mountain Corridor: Veterans Memorial Tunnels to Continental Divide

Several improvement projects will take place along and near the I-70 mountain corridor in summer 2021, but with most lane closures taking place at night, there will be minimal impacts on travel between the Denver area and the mountains.

Select each menu item below for information on each project. CDOT is managing these projects collectively to minimize travel impacts and ensure the mountain communities along I-70 remain open and accessible to local residents, tourists, and recreationalists.

For people heading to the High Country, the westbound I-70 Mountain Express Lane will open this summer for testing during peak travel times, typically weekends and holidays. Signs along the corridor will alert drivers to when this 12-mile long Express Lane is open between the Veterans Memorial Tunnels and the US 40/Empire interchange. During testing, this summer tolls will be waived.

As always with construction projects, drivers are encouraged to follow posted speed limits and drive distraction-free. For updated road conditions along the I-70 mountain corridor, click on the CDOT Alerts icon at the bottom right and improve your travel experience by reviewing these I-70 mountain corridor driving tips.
