I-25 (US 36 to 104th Avenue) Safety & Operations Improvements Study Proposed Action Survey

Survey Overview

In fall 2024, we asked for public feedback in an online survey about I-25 between US 36 and 104th Avenue. You shared your top priorities are improving traffic flow and safety. The project team took your input to propose roadway, transit and pedestrian/bike improvements, and we’d like your feedback.

A blue line shows Route 93L, which will continue to serve the Park-n-Ride via Eppinger Boulevard. A green line shows Route 92, which will continue to serve the Park-n-Ride via 88th Avenue. An orange line shows Route 8, which is along 84th Avenue and Huron Street. A purple line shows the N-Line, which will continue to serve the Thornton & 88th Station. A text box states: Removal of bus ramps from I-25 to Park-n-Ride ends 120X service to this Park-n-Ride.

Please share your comments on the proposed action features below:

1. Roadway Improvements

The proposed action includes the following key features on I-25 to improve traffic operations and safety:

  • Add a new lane in each direction from US 36 to 104th Avenue
  • Add auxiliary lanes between interchanges (continuous entrance/exit lanes)
  • Increase shoulder widths so traffic incidents can be moved out of travel lanes
  • Adjust entrance ramps from I-270, I-76 and US 36 to northbound I-25 so traffic doesn’t enter I-25 all in the same location

Existing entrances and exit locations to the Express Lane will not change.

2. Transit Changes

The project proposes to remove the I-25 bus slip ramps at the Thornton Park-n-Ride. This improves safety and reduces delays from buses weaving in and out of the Express Lanes. Riders of the 120X would board at the Wagon Road Park-n-Ride instead, allowing buses to stay in the Express Lanes to downtown and shorten travel time. It is anticipated local bus routes will continue providing service to the Thornton Park-n-Ride.

3. Walking, Biking & Rolling (scooters, skateboards, etc.) Changes

Over 25% of survey respondents said they walk, bike, or roll across I-25. The project will provide more room for these modes with a wider 88th Avenue bridge and an improved Niver Creek Trail undercrossing at the Thornton Park-n-Ride.
