US 85 and Weld County Road 44 Interchange Newsletter

June 9, 2023 Update

County Road 44 closed between southbound US 85 and County Road 33 from June 12 to June 26


County Road 44 will close to through traffic between U.S. Highway 85 and County Road 33 from Monday, June 12 to Monday, June 26. This safety closure is necessary for southbound US 85 paving operations near the CR 44 intersection. The signed detour route uses CR 31 and CR 42 to bypass the work area. Access to properties on CR 44 between US 85 and CR 33 will be maintained from the west.

Southbound US 85 traffic is expected to shift onto the new pavement this summer.

About the Project

Jalisco International was awarded a $28-million contract to construct an interchange at US 85 and CR 44 in Peckham. Work on the interchange started in early 2022.

The new interchange will improve safety, eliminate interaction between roadway traffic and the Union Pacific Railroad tracks, and provide efficient access control.

Major project features include:

  • Two new bridges to carry CR 44 over US 85 and UPRR tracks
  • Roundabout at southbound US 85 ramps / CR 44 intersection
  • Intersection improvements at CR 44 and Niobrara Boulevard
  • Permanent closure of CR 33 at US 85 and UPRR

Traffic Impacts


Drivers should slow down as they approach the work zone, drive with caution, allow extra space between vehicles, and give themselves extra travel time. Traffic impacts include:
  • General work hours are Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. – 5 p.m., extended hours and weekend work may be necessary
  • Lane closures are possible from 7 a.m. - 5 p.m.
  • Expect trucks entering and exiting the work zone and intermittent flagger control on CR 44 for site access
  • All work is weather-dependent, and the schedule is subject to change
