US 160 Resurfacing Project from Four Corners to Aztec Creek

Work this Week
March 27 - April 2, 2023

Motorists should plan for: -

  • 24/7 one-lane alternating traffic guided by a traffic signal at San Juan River Bridge (approximately MP 0.5)
  • 40 MPH reduced speed limit 24/7
  • 10.5-foot width restriction 24/7 from MP 0 to MP 1
  • Monday through Saturday alternating traffic at various locations from MP 0 to MP 10.5

The project will be in operation Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 6:30 p.m.

About the Project:

The Colorado Department of Transportation will begin resurfacing work on April 18 along US Highway 160 from the Four Corners to Aztec Creek. A&S Construction Company of Canyon City is the contractor for this project.

The resurfacing project will take place on US 160 for 9 miles from Mile Point approximately 470, at the Arizona/New Mexico state line, to MP 8, at Aztec Creek. Work will include a full depth reclamation and reconstruction of the high way. All layers of the roadway will be pulverized and reused in a new hot mix asphalt paving. Other aspects of the project include minor shoulder widening and construction of additional passing lanes and acceleration/deceleration lanes for CO Highway 41. Crews will also perform bridge maintenance, culvert repairs, install new guardrail, new pavement markings and signing.

The resurfacing will add approximately 10 years of life to the highway, provide a smoother road surface and will add durability by increasing the resistance of ruts and road damage. This will allow for a smoother and safer drive for motorists.
Other benefits of the project include installation of new guardrail that will be 31 inches high, designed to meet new safety standard requirements. The higher railing will help veering vehicles remain on the road more effectively, making the highway safer for the traveling public. The former standard height of guardrail was 27 inches.
