US 287 Surface Improvement Project
About the Project:
The Colorado Department of Transportation and Castle Rock Construction will begin the surface improvement project on US 287 between the Oklahoma state line to Springfield. The anticipated completion date is late September 2023. The construction work on US 287 will begin at Mile Point 0.00 and will conclude at the south end of Springfield. The purpose of the project is to provide overall improvements and enhance safety for motorists along the roadway by removing and replacing concrete as a preventive maintenance.
Project Benefits
- The 30-mile project will consist of replacing and removing concrete panels for a smoother roadway
- Pavement markings will provide brighter and more visible lane recognition
- Rumble strips will be added to the shoulder, which is an effective strategy to decrease the occurrence of crashes due to vehicles departing from the roadway
Work Schedule:
- Daytime work hours are from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday.
Traffic Impacts:
- Alternating lane closures with a temporary traffic signal - Motorists can expect up to 10-minute wait times
- Speed limit will be reduced to 40 MPH through the construction zone
- 12-foot lane restriction
