US 6 in Clifton Improvements
About the Project
The final phase of the US 6 Clifton Improvements project will complete the second roundabout at 5th Street, add center medians, and an additional eastbound travel lane from 1st Street to 5th Street.
Traffic control will maintain two-way traffic during project construction and business access will remain open. During reconstruction, motorists are encouraged to utilize local streets to access businesses within the project work zone, as left turn movements and some right turn movements will be impacted.
The completed project will improve safety and traffic flow by realigning and updating traffic patterns on US 6. Pedestrian and bicycle connections through the corridor will also be improved.

Findings of 2015 Pre-Project Study
In 2015, CDOT completed a planning and environmental linkages (PEL) study that examined the need for transportation improvements along the US 6 corridor through Clifton to improve:
- mobility and reduce congestion
- traffic operations on the corridor and at intersections
- multimodal facilities
- safety for all users
The PEL study developed and screened a reasonable range of potential improvements to enhance corridor operations and safety for all modes of transportation —including non-motorized travel.
Following the study, CDOT further refined potential corridor improvements to reduce right-of-way impacts while also improving congestion, safety and multimodal facilities.
