Car Seats Colorado says goodbye to Trooper Tim Sutherland

Traffic Safety Pulse News

Last month, the Car Seats Colorado team bid a fond farewell to its longtime program coordinator, Colorado State Patrol Trooper Tim Sutherland. Tim served as the child passenger safety program manager for the past eight years. During that time, he helped lead approximately 80 car seat safety technician training certification courses, including initial certification and recertification. He also helped oversee Colorado’s network of 1,100+ car seat safety technicians statewide.

During his tenure, Tim helped rebrand the program and worked to build educational resources available to parents, caregivers, car seat technicians, law enforcement, health care workers and more. He also believed passionately in the power of community to help keep Colorado kids safe on our roads. He and his team traveled from Julesburg to Cortez and so many places in between to make sure each community was informed about how and why child passenger safety is so important.

“Having worked closely with Tim for the past 6 ½ years, it was apparent that this was more than just a job to him,” said Angel Giffin, longtime Car Seats Colorado partner. “His passion for protecting the littlest passengers was fueled by his own experience as a child who was involved in a serious crash. Tim’s dedication was instrumental in the growth of the program, and he will definitely be missed!”

“Tim’s shoes will be hard to fill. He has become a leading expert on car seat safety, which has benefited our state immensely,” said Sam Cole, Traffic Safety Communications Manager at CDOT. “Tim also had great skills in working with the news media to help them carry the story about child safety. But most of all I think everyone is going to miss Tim’s humor and kindness.”

So, Trooper Sutherland, thank you for all you’ve done and best of luck on your new adventure (and so glad you will be staying with the CSP team!). It can be easily said that all kids in Colorado have benefited from your service.
