Celebrating all Children — Día del Niño

Shift into Safe News

Countries around the world have honored kids with a special day for nearly 100 years, and in 1990, the United Nations established the Convention on the Rights of the Child, declaring that kids have a right to health, well-being and happiness. The proper use of car seats and booster seats certainly contributes to the health and well-being of Colorado kids!

On April 27, CDOT and Colorado State Patrol (Car Seats Colorado) participated in Día del Niño (Day of the Child) activities at the Denver Museum of Nature and Science in partnership with the Mexican Cultural Center and Telemundo Colorado.

Children and adults gathered in a museum watching a woman properly secure a kid in a car seat.

Angel Giffin, CSP Child Passenger Safety State Training Coordinator, and Trooper Kent Trimbach, CSP Child Passenger Safety Program Coordinator, were on hand to interact with parents and caregivers, helping families understand the importance of installing and using car seats correctly.

“In 2024, Colorado had a 66% misuse rate on the car seats that we saw during inspections across the state. Our goal is to provide the tools and resources necessary to help educate parents and caregivers on the laws and safety guidelines protecting their kids — because their lives depend on it,” Giffin said.
