Ugly sweaters and sober driving are in season — CDOT and partners provide $20,000 in ride credits statewide

Traffic Safety Pulse News

Throughout December and into the new year, CDOT is partnering with Lyft and Responsibility.org to provide $20,000 in ride credits to reduce impaired driving and save lives statewide. So far, the campaign has had 870 Lyft credits claimed and 250 rides taken, with more than $2,446.56 spent on safe and sober rides. The campaign is part of a grant CDOT received from the Governors Highway Safety Association (GHSA) to help prevent impaired driving during the holidays. This is the third consecutive year CDOT has been awarded the grant.

Called the “Nothing Uglier Than a DUI” campaign, the promotion launched Dec. 1 to curb impaired driving by offering safe and sober rides during the holiday season. The campaign asks Coloradans to show their holiday spirit by sporting seasonal sweaters and keeping safety at the forefront of all festivities. Those who follow CDOT on Facebook will have a chance to win a custom ugly holiday sweater by engaging with one of CDOT’s promotional posts on Facebook.

Coloradans can redeem a $10 ride credit until Jan. 3, 2023, using the code “DUISRUGLY” in the promotions section of the Lyft app. The campaign will be promoted on social media and other channels to provide ride credits on a first-come, first-served basis statewide. CDOT will also host a pop-up event Dec. 16 at Miracle at Union Station to give out a select number of Lyft ride credit codes.
