CDOT launched pop-up exhibit to show severe consequences of a DUI

Traffic Safety Pulse News

To raise awareness of the consequences of a DUI, ahead of Labor Day weekend, CDOT and the Denver Police Department hosted a pop-up exhibit at Stanley Marketplace on Sept. 2. The display walked people through the lengthy process of a DUI arrest, including jail time, community service, license revocation, fines and vehicle modifications.

CDOT distributed Uber discount code giveaways to Stanley Marketplace exhibit attendees as part of the Decide to Ride campaign. CDOT partnered once more with Anheuser-Busch, Mothers Against Drunk Driving (MADD) and Uber for the campaign, which asked people to leave their keys at home and take a sober ride during the Labor Day holiday.

The exhibit was also at the Art RiNo festival on Sept. 9 to further reach Coloradans.

Preliminary data shows the recent Labor Day enforcement period concluded with 586 arrests from 109 participating agencies. The agencies with the highest number of arrests were the Colorado State Patrol (114), Colorado Springs Police Department (72), Denver Police Department (71) and Aurora Police Department (35).

The Fall Festivals enforcement period began Sept. 15 and continues through Oct. 24. Arrest data for enforcement periods can be found at https://www.codot.gov/safety/traffic-safety-reporting-portal.
