With Memorial Day weekend approaching, CDOT’s commitment to safety continues

Traffic Safety Pulse News

With Coloradans taking advantage of the long summer days and rooftop cocktails, CDOT’s commitment to safety continues. CDOT partnered with the Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and 68 local law enforcement agencies to kick off the first of six summer DUI enforcement periods with the Memorial Day Weekend enforcement on May 16, running through June.

Law enforcement typically sees a spike in DUI arrests throughout the 100 Deadly Days of Summer, serving as a grim reminder that mixing drinking and driving comes with dire consequences. Data shows that the recent Spring Events enforcement period resulted in 615 arrests across 78 participating agencies. The agencies with the highest number of arrests were Colorado State Patrol (138), Colorado Springs Police Department (65) and Denver Police Department (56). The next enforcement period is Summer Blitz from June 9-20.
