Agencies team up to combat impaired driving

Eleven Colorado law enforcement agencies across northern Colorado have formed a task force with the goal of reducing impaired driving.

Officers from the Colorado State Patrol (CSP), Dacono Police Department, Evans Police Department, Fort Lupton Police Department, Frederick Police Department, Johnstown Police Department, Lochbuie Police Department, Milliken Police Department, Windsor Police Department, the Weld County Sheriff’s Office and the Weld County DA’s office are joining forces to catch impaired drivers on the road.

During a six-hour test run conducted by eight CSP troopers and Frederick Police Department officers in May, 49 drivers were stopped at a DUI checkpoint, resulting in two DUI arrests and one warrant arrest. On Aug. 11 and 12, nearly 20 additional officers were on patrol with the single purpose of checking for impaired drivers. Results of the operation will be made available soon.
