Heat Is On: Fall, Halloween and Thanksgiving DUI Enforcement Results

With one month left in 2017, Colorado's 209 impairment-related crash fatalities have already surpassed the 191 deaths last year. To combat this critical statewide issue, CDOT, Colorado State Patrol (CSP) and local law enforcement agencies have worked diligently over the past few months to ensure impaired drivers are removed from state roads.

Since Sept. 15, CDOT and its partners collaborated for three DUI enforcement periods as part of The Heat Is On campaign:

  1. the Fall Festivals DUI enforcement: Sept. 15 - Oct. 23;
  2. the Halloween weekend enforcement: Oct. 27 - Nov. 1; and
  3. the Thanksgiving enforcement: Nov. 17 - Nov. 27.

Combined, the enforcement periods resulted in 2,781 citations.

The Heat Is On returns for the Holiday Parties enforcement period, Dec. 1-11, and the New Year's Eve enforcement, Dec. 29 - Jan. 2. Last year, 568 drivers were cited during the Holiday Parties enforcement, and 279 during the New Year's enforcement.
