Resurfacing project to begin on CO 141 near Gateway
News Release
Mesa County — The Colorado Department of Transportation, in partnership with Elam Construction, will begin a resurfacing project on July 7 along CO Highway 141 near Gateway. Motorists should plan for 20-minute delays. The project has an anticipated completion date at the end of October.
The resurfacing project will improve approximately 13 miles of CO 141 from Mile Point 107, Larsen Canyon south of Gateway, to MP 120, Turner Gulch north of Gateway. Work will include asphalt overlay paving (two applications), guardrail replacement and bridge deck repairs at four locations.
“CO 141 is a scenic and historically significant route that winds through the western region of the state,” said Jason Smith, CDOT Regional Transportation Director. “In addition to supporting tourism, the highway serves as a vital link for connecting rural communities. The new surface will make this route more reliable.”
Project Benefits
The new asphalt will add years of life to the highway, provide a smoother road surface and will add durability by increasing the resistance of ruts and road damage. The new guardrail will be 31 inches high, designed to meet new safety standard requirements. The higher railing will help veering vehicles remain on the road more effectively, making the highway safer for the traveling public.
Travel Impacts
- Daytime work hours are Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Traffic impacts will include:
- One-lane alternating traffic guided by pilot car
- 20-minute delays
- 10 feet width restriction
- Speed reduction to 40 MPH
- Travelers will encounter a 24/7 one-lane alternating traffic guided by a temporary portable traffic signal for bridge repair

Roadway resurfacing on CO 141 near Gateway is set to begin July 7, 2025.
