Overnight full closure of southbound I-25 in Colorado Springs on Friday, April 17

Colorado Springs — The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contract partner, SEMA Construction, Inc., will implement a full closure of southbound Interstate 25 at Garden of the Gods Road (near Exit 146) on Friday, April 17. During the planned overnight closure, crews will be repairing the bridge deck at Garden of the Gods Road. This closure is necessary for the safety of the traveling public.
Crews will be conducting bridge deck repairs, and the removal and replacement of expansion devices on both ends of the bridge. The work schedule is weather-dependent and subject to change.
The full closure of southbound I-25 at Garden of the Gods Road and detour route will be in effect from:
- 10 p.m. on Friday, April 17, to 4 a.m. on Saturday, April 18
To complete the bridge deck repairs, the following upcoming closures are anticipated and a detour route will be in effect. Advance notice and project updates will be communicated to the public ahead of these activities.
- May 1: Full overnight closure of northbound I-25 at Garden of the Gods Road.
- May 8: Full overnight closure of southbound I-25 at Garden of the Gods Road.
Traffic Impacts
On the evenings of Friday, April 17 motorists can expect the following impacts:
- Beginning at 7 p.m., southbound I-25 at Garden of the Gods Road will be reduced to two lanes
- From 10 p.m. to 4 a.m., there will be a full closure of southbound I-25 at Garden of the Gods Road
The following detour route will be in effect:- Motorists traveling southbound on I-25: Motorists should take Exit 146 to Garden of the Gods Road. Motorists should turn right (heading west) on Garden of the Gods Road, turn left (heading south) on Centennial Boulevard and continue straight to reconnect with southbound I-25 past Fillmore Street near Centennial Boulevard
- Two lanes will reopen at 5 a.m. on Saturday, April 18
- All lanes will reopen at 6 a.m. on Monday, April 20

- Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
- Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
- Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
- Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
- Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
- Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
- Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
- Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
- Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
- Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
- Be patient!
