Overnight ramp closures begin Aug. 16 at US 550 - US 160 Grandview Interchange

La Plata County - Beginning Sunday, August 16 the Colorado Department of Transportation will begin nighttime paving operations on exit and entrance ramps at the US Highway 550 - 160 Grandview Interchange. Motorists traveling southbound and northbound on US 550 between Durango and New Mexico will detour on Wilson Gulch Drive and Three Springs Boulevard to access the Grandview Bridge and points beyond.

The Grandview Interchange exit and entrance ramps will experience staggered nighttime closures between Aug, 16 and Sept, 4. Only one ramp will be closed at a time. Motorists should be prepared for lane shifts, signage and flaggers signaling a ramp closures and detours.

Traffic Impacts

Working hours are planned from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday evening through Friday morning. Traffic impacts include:

  • Intermittent overnight closures of exit and entrance ramps
  • Detours will be in place:
    • Southbound US 550 Detour: Motorists traveling to New Mexico should use Three Springs Boulevard and Wilson Gulch Drive to access the Grandview Interchange and continue south on US 550
    • Northbound US 550 Detour: Motorists traveling to Durango should use the Grandview Bridge, Wilson Gulch Drive and Three Springs Boulevard and continue west on US 160
  • Flaggers and signage will guide motorists to the detour route
  • Motorists should slow down as they approach the work zone, drive with caution, allow extra space between vehicles and give themselves extra travel time
  • All lanes and the ramps will re-open by 7 a.m. each day

  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
