Sign replacement project to begin in Central Front Range and Southeast Colorado

Project Announcement

Oct. 12, 2026 - Denver Metro/Central Colorado - Motorists should plan for daytime work starting this Fall

Custer, Douglas, Fremont, Park, Pueblo and Teller Counties — The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contract partner, Front Range Civil, will begin a sign replacement project throughout Southeast Colorado beginning Fall of 2026. Motorists should plan for shoulder closures, single lane closures and one-lane alternating traffic when work is taking place.

The project will take place at eight locations in Custer, Douglas, Fremont, Park, Pueblo and Teller Counties. Crews will remove and replace approximately 1,000 signs.

“Clear, visible signage is essential for helping motorists safely navigate southeastern Colorado’s highways,” said Region Transportation Director Shane Ferguson. “These new signs provide improved reflectivity, making important information easier to see at night and helping drivers travel with greater confidence and safety.”

The project is scheduled for completion in June 2027.

Traffic Impacts

  • Daytime work hours are sunrise to sunset Monday through Friday
  • Shoulder closures, single lane closures and one-lane alternating traffic will take place in the work zone
