Fairplay mobility hub improvements project started in mid-September

Sept. 28, 2026 - Southeastern Colorado - Motorists will encounter shoulder closures and some single lane closures on CO 9 (Main Street) and 4th Street

Park County — The Colorado Department of Transportation, in partnership with Tricon Construction, will begin work Sept. 16 to upgrade the mobility hub in the town of Fairplay. The project is located on Colorado Highway 9 (Main Street) at Mile Point 65.3 where it intersects with 4th Street.

The project will include construction of a new transit stop with bus loading and unloading areas, a passenger waiting zone, ADA-compliant sidewalks and ramps, a new parking lot, internal circulation improvements, and associated drainage and lighting infrastructure.

This mobility hub provides a central location where multiple modes of transportation come together, making it easy for travelers to switch from one mode to another. These improvements will encourage use of public transit, helping to reduce congestion and emissions while connecting users to local and surrounding communities.

Work is expected to be completed late 2026.

Traffic Impacts

Beginning Sept. 16, motorists should expect the following impacts:

  • Working hours from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 7 a.m. to noon on Fridays
  • Various shoulder closures and some single lane closures will be in place within the work zone
  • Motorists are urged to drive with caution, heed all signs and leave plenty of following distance when traveling through the area
  • Construction schedules could change depending on the weather

About Bustang Outrider

A key component of the Fairplay Mobility Hub is improved access to CDOT’s Bustang Outrider route between Crested Butte, Gunnison, and Denver’s Union Station, which provides additional connections to Bustang routes throughout the state. This Hub also will allow passengers to connect to the cities and towns in Summit and Lake counties, and to Bustang’s West Line along Interstate 70 in Frisco via the Summit Stage.

Bustang Outrider is CDOT’s regional bus network specifically designed to connect rural Colorado communities with larger cities and major transit hubs. It operates as part of the main Bustang interregional bus system, linking travelers to medical centers, employment and local transit networks.

  • Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
  • Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
  • Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
  • Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
  • Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
  • Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
  • Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
  • Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
  • Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
  • Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
