CDOT begins resurfacing project on US 6 east of Fruita

Sept. 11, 2026 - Northwestern Colorado - Motorists can expect traffic impacts beginning Sept. 13

Mesa County — The Colorado Department of Transportation, in partnership with United Companies, will begin resurfacing operations on US 6 east of Fruita from Mile Point 20 to MP 26 on Sept. 13.

This project consists of asphalt resurfacing, guardrail repairs, Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) improvements, and pavement marking. These improvements will help maintain the integrity of the roadway and provide a smoother, safer ride for motorists.

Motorists can expect nighttime single-lane closures with flagging operations and alternating one-way traffic Sunday through Friday, from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m. Motorists should plan ahead and expect delays.

The project is scheduled for completion in November.

Traffic Impacts

Beginning Sept. 13, motorists and area residents can expect the following impacts:

Work hours are Sunday night through Friday morning from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m.
Single-lane closures with flagging operations and alternating one-way traffic
Shoulder closures
Reduced speeds in the work zone will be in place
Construction schedules are weather-dependent and subject to change
Motorists are urged to slow down and drive with caution through the work zone

Do not speed in work zones. Obey the posted speed limits.
Stay Alert! Expect the unexpected.
Watch for workers. Drive with caution.
Don't change lanes unnecessarily.
Avoid using mobile devices such as phones while driving in work zones.
Turn on headlights so that workers and other drivers can see you.
Be especially alert at night while driving in work zones.
Expect delays, especially during peak travel times.
Allow ample space between you and the car in front of you.
Anticipate lane shifts and merge when directed to do so.
