Avalanche control and mitigation in Colorado is critical work. Whether you're backcountry skiing, split boarding or just passing through, CDOT's highly trained winter operations team is on the job. Our crews drop charges from helicopters, ski into the backcountry, and launch shells from air cannons and Howitzers to trigger slides in avalanche paths that threaten our state highways. If you're recreating in the mountains, avalanche safety is serious business. When it comes to traffic safety in the mountains, that's our business.
