Buchtel Boulevard & Evans Intersection Improvements

About the Project

The project consists of making safety and operational improvements along a two-mile stretch of Buchtel Boulevard from just west of University Boulevard to just east of Colorado Boulevard on Colorado Center Drive. Other major work includes reconstructing the University Boulevard and Colorado Boulevard intersections on both Buchtel Boulevard and East Evans Avenue.

Funded by the Elevate Denver bond and part of the University Safer Streets Program, the goal is to transform Buchtel Boulevard into a complete street and improve safety, traffic flow and connectivity to area businesses, the University of Denver and the Colorado Station light rail. Work will last for about 18 months.

Primary work consists of reconstructing the four intersections by realigning travel lanes and replacing traffic signals to improve vehicular traffic flows and minimize turning conflicts. Important multimodal improvements on Buchtel Boulevard include adding protected bike lanes, sidewalks and pedestrian crossings as well as east on Colorado Center Drive to Birch Street.

Crews will also install new crosswalks adjacent to Regional Transportation District’s Colorado Station and add new lighting and wayfinding along the project corridor.
