CO 45 Access Control Plan Study

About the Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation is working with the City of Pueblo and Pueblo County to complete a study of access points on CO 45 (Pueblo Boulevard), from I-25 to US 50, a distance of approximately 8.7 miles. The study is evaluating the highway’s existing conditions and the area’s anticipated future growth to make recommendations to optimize the location and types of access points on CO 45.

  • An Access Study evaluates how existing access points impact the operations and safety of vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists moving along a corridor. Through these evaluations, the plan helps establish long-range vision for access points along the highway by providing recommendations for future access point locations, traffic movements at each access point, types of intersection control (yield/stop sign/traffic signal) at each access point, and more.
  • Any intersection or driveway along a roadway that crosses the right-of-way is called an access point. A goal of the project is to improve operations and safety for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
  • There is a potential for conflict to occur between the different modes of transportation (vehicle, pedestrian, and bicycle) at these locations and too many access points result in congestion and negatively impact mobility along the corridor. A goal of this project is to improve operations and safety for vehicles, pedestrians, and bicyclists.
