CO 340 Resurfacing in Mesa County

About the Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation in collaboration with prime contractor, United Companies, will perform a resurfacing project on Colorado Highway 340 from Grand Avenue to Redlands Parkway (Mile Point 9.61 to MP 13.21) in Grand Junction.

In addition to resurfacing efforts, crews will perform the following work:

  • Rehabilitate the bridge deck on the east and westbound bridges over the Colorado River
  • Upgrade concrete curb ramps at several intersection locations
  • Replace guardrails
  • Implement new permanent pavement marking throughout the corridor

Work Schedule

  • The project is anticipated to begin early March and continue through July
  • Initial working hours will take place from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., Monday through Friday for bridge deck rehabilitation efforts
  • In April, the project team is anticipated to transition to nighttime work for resurfacing operations and curb ramp upgrades
    • General nighttime hours will take place from 7 p.m. to 7 a.m., Sunday night through Thursday night
  • There will be no overlap of nighttime and daytime work

Traffic Impacts

Motorists can expect the following impacts during the period of construction:

  • Drivers can expect permanent single-lane closures on the east and westbound bridges over the Colorado River in March and April for bridge deck rehabilitation work. One through-lane of travel will remain open at all times. Closures are expected to start on the eastbound bridge and transition to the westbound bridge
  • During nighttime paving operations, anticipate single alternating lane closures in each direction
    • Paving work will generally move from west to east with one through-lane open in each direction
  • Temporary sidewalk and pedestrian crosswalk closures will be in place for curb ramp work
  • Please follow all on-site signage to navigate around active construction areas
  • Business and residential access is expected to remain open at all times
  • Travel through the work zone with caution. Slow down, leave plenty of room between vehicles and watch for crews and equipment
  • While significant delays are not expected, motorists are encouraged to account for up to 10 minutes of extra travel-time to navigate the project corridor
  • Residents and businesses near CO 340 can expect some construction-related noise during working hours
