CO 7 Cherryvale Road to 28th Street Resurfacing
One-lane traffic pattern in each direction will switch to westbound CO 7 (Arapahoe Avenue) between Foothills Parkway and Commerce Street
Long delays anticipated, an alternate route is highly advised. Refer to the Traffic Impacts section for details.
About the Project
The Colorado Department of Transportation and contractor Asphalt Specialties Co. began a construction project on Colorado Highway 7 (Arapahoe Avenue) between 28th Street and extending east to Cherryvale Road in Boulder.
Work on this project is scheduled for completion in late December 2025.
The existing asphalt will be milled and overlaid with new asphalt. Milling removes the worn-out surface layer, and the fresh asphalt overlay restores the road's smoothness and improves safety. While work is in progress, erosion control measures will be in place to prevent sediment runoff and protect water resources during construction.
Work also includes ADA upgrades that include curb ramp installations. These curb ramps are a small but important part of making sidewalks, street crossings and other pedestrian routes accessible to everyone.
Additionally, the City of Boulder will coordinate with CDOT to launch the East Arapahoe Bus and Turn Lanes Signing & Striping Project, which will convert underutilized right-through lanes into shared curbside lanes for buses and right-turning vehicles only, and provide improved trip reliability for the existing bus service routes. This joint effort will help reduce costs, shorten construction timelines and lessen disruptions for the community.
This combined project between the City of Boulder and CDOT will provide improved ADA and safer connections to the corridor and bus service, as well as necessary safety and riding surface improvements for all modes utilizing the corridor. Partnering on these projects reduces the overall construction duration and impact on users in the corridor.

Traffic Impacts
Beginning Tuesday, Sept. 2, traffic will shift to a one-lane traffic pattern in each direction on westbound CO 7 (Arapahoe Avenue) between Commerce Street and Foothills Parkway to allow crews to safely complete work on the eastbound lanes. This traffic configuration may be in place through Sept. 12, weather permitting. Access to local businesses will remain open throughout construction, and pedestrians are advised to follow posted detour routes for safe navigation around the work zone.
Crews will perform reclamation work, removing the existing asphalt and reconditioning base materials to create a stronger foundation, followed by a new asphalt overlay to improve smoothness and safety for drivers. This work is part of an ongoing project to improve roadway conditions and extend pavement life. Please plan ahead and use caution near the work zone.

Motorists can expect right-lane closures for Americans with Disabilities Act upgrades for at least one week at various intersections between 48th Street and 55th Street along CO 7 (Arapahoe Avenue), including bus stops.
