I-225 Bottleneck Mitigation

About the Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation in cooperation with prime contractor, Brannan Sand & Gravel, will be performing a traffic flow improvement project on northbound I-225 between I-25 and S Yosemite Street (Mile Point 0.22 to MP 2.11). Crews will add an additional through-lane of travel on northbound I-225 in order to address congestion concerns from merging traffic off of I-25. Additional upgrades will include resurfacing and restriping northbound I-225 and improving drainage infrastructure in the area. Work will take place across both Denver and Arapahoe Counties.

Project Benefits

Work Schedule

  • Construction is anticipated to start in early October and continue into December of 2026.
  • Crews will alternate between nighttime and daytime construction throughout the duration of the project.
    • Night work and day work will not take place concurrently.
  • General daytime hours will be from 7 a.m. to 5 p.m., Monday through Friday.
  • Night work will take place from 9:30 p.m. to 6 a.m., Sunday night through Thursday night.

Traffic Impacts

Motorists can expect the following impacts during the period of construction:

  • Daytime shoulder closures on northbound I-225 with all current through-lanes remaining open
  • Nighttime closures of the northbound I-25 to northbound I-225 and the southbound I-25 to northbound I-225 off-ramps are expected intermittently
    • Detour routes will be in place while the ramps are closed overnight
  • Follow all signage and traffic control on-site to navigate around lane and ramp closures
  • Motorists are encouraged to account for up to 10 minutes of extra travel time
