I-70 Geological Hogback Trail Rehabilitation
About the Project
A geological hogback trail rehabilitation project will occur along Interstate 70 in central Colorado. Trail work will take place just south of CO 470 at Mile Point 259.2. The work will include restoring and improving the Geological‑Hogback point‑of‑interest trails located adjacent to I‑70 at MP 259.21 in Jefferson County. The project’s purpose is to enhance public access, safety and long‑term trail durability while preserving the geological and educational value of the Hogback area.
Please Note: All recreational access to the area is closed during construction.

Project Benefits
The trail work will provide the following benefits:

- Enhance visitor experience with upgraded scenic overlooks, interpretive signage and parking area improvements
Work Schedule
- Daytime work hours range from 7 a.m. to 3:30 p.m., Monday through Friday
Traffic Impacts
- Stegosaurus lot is closed
- North Geological Hogback Trail is closed
- Recreational access within the North Trail construction area is closed during construction
- Temporary concrete barrier will remain in place for the duration of construction activities associated with the North Trail rehabilitation work
