Sign Improvements in Park & Summit Counties

About the Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation and its contract partner, Work Zone Traffic Control, will remove and replace road signs on several highways in Park and Summit Counties, including Colorado Highway 9, US Highway 24 and US Highway 285. The project is expected to begin in mid-October 2025, and the expected completion date is June 2026.

Initial work will begin on CO 9, just north of Hoosier Pass at Mile Point 80, and continue south to the Park–Fremont County line at MP 18. Work on US 24 will follow, then US 285.

Locations and mile points for sign improvements include:

  • Park/Summit Counties:
    • CO 9 from Fremont County Line to Blue River (MP 18 to 80)
    • US 24 from four miles west to 14 miles east of Hartsel to Wilkerson Pass (MP 235 to 253)
    • US 285 from 11 miles south of Fairplay to Bailey (MP 172 to 225)

Many of the current sign structures and signs are in poor condition and will be upgraded to meet current state highway standards. The new regulatory, warning and guidance signs will enhance safety for the traveling public by increasing visibility and helping motorists navigate roadways more easily.
