US 24 Traffic Signal Installations

About the Project

The Colorado Department of Transportation in cooperation with Sturgeon Electric, will be installing new traffic signals on US 24 at the Stapleton Road and Academy Park Loop intersections. Additional fiber optic installations will take place between Judge Orr Road and Stapleton Road. Curb ramp upgrades to meet Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) standards and trail connections are also included in the project's scope.

Project Benefits

  • Traffic studies performed at both intersections indicated that signal installations would improve the safety of the traveling public better assist the flow of travel in each direction
  • Fiber optic installations will help deliver reliable wifi needed for businesses, schools and other critical infrastructure in the growing area
  • ADA ramp upgrades and trail connections will help offer safe and reliable transportation options for multimodal users

Work Schedule

  • The project is expected to start in September 2026 and continue into February of 2027
  • General working hours will be from 7 am to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday
  • Crews will begin working on underground utilities and ADA ramp upgrades, followed by the signal installations

Traffic Impacts

Motorists can expect the following impacts during the period of construction:

  • Motorists can expect single-lane closures and turn-pocket closures at both the Academy Park Loop and Stapleton Road intersection locations
    • Lane closures will be implemented during off-peak travel times from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m.
    • At least one through-lane of travel will remain open at all times
  • Pedestrians can expect some sidewalk closures with detour routes in place. Please follow all on-site signage to navigate around active work areas
  • Bus routes will remain unaffected by the project
  • The project team does not anticipate significant delays due to construction
    • Motorists are encouraged to account for up to 10 minutes of extra travel time
